2014-04-24Murphy, Elaine Viola 09/24/1924 ~ 03/13/2014 SANTEE -- Elaine Viola Pingot Murphy of Santee was born in Detroit, Michigan, the only child of Stanley and Erma Dunham Pingot. The first of Elaine's two distinguished careers began in May 1945 as a Seaman 2nd Class, Photographer's Mate, serving during WWII and the Korean War. She left the Navy as a Petty Officer 1st Class in 1954. Next, she served as a civilian with the U.S. Navy, rising from a GS-2 in 1954 to a GS-10 at her retirement in 1974. During her Civil Service years, Elaine settled in East County San Diego where she unceasingly gave her time and her heart to the community. She was actively involved in civic affairs, volunteering for the Santee Public Library, many political and governmental organizations, and her passion, the Santee Historical Society.
